Richard lives with his wife, Donna and their daughter.

 

Following a by-election, Richard was elected to the Town Council in January 2014 for the remainder of the Administration and was re-elected again in 2015, he also became a Broxtowe Borough Councillor in 2015. Richard retained his seat in 2019 for the Stapleford North Ward on both Stapleford Town Council and Broxtowe Borough Council.  He was Mayor of Broxtowe in 2021/22.

 

Richard has lived in Stapleford all his life and attended Frederick Harrison Infants, Stevenson Junior School, Bramcote Park Comprehensive and colleges in the Nottingham area. He is also a qualified Train The Trainer.

 

In 2014, Richard was recognised as a Community Learning Champion for his involvement with Nottingham A.C.L.S.   Richard was also awarded the Points of Light award by the Prime Minister, for his work in the community.

 

In 2015, Richard was awarded Tenant of the Year by ARCH (Association of Retained Council Housing).  Richard also became a Digital Champion for Nottinghamshire County Council.

In 2016, Richard was awarded the Tennant of the Year award by building communities in the East Midlands (BCEM).

 

Richard also won the Colin Smith Memorial Award by East Midlands Tenant Participation Forum (EMTPF).

 

In 2017, Richard was awarded a Community Stars- Best in Nottinghamshire award in recognition of being nominated as a volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the Nottingham Community.

 

In 2018, Richard was awarded the Nottinghamshire County Council Chairman's award in recognition of achievements including helping local people with food and provisions from a local supermarket every week, helping reduce anti-social behaviour in the town and organising jobs fairs in the local community.

 

Richard was also presented with an award off Nottinghamshire County Council/Age Friendly Nottinghamshire for the work in getting Stapleford to take part in the Take a Seat Scheme, making him an 'Age Friendly Community Ambassador'.

 

In 2019, Richard was a finalist in the Nottingham Post Heroes Award for Best Neighbour.  

Richard was also a runner up in The Community Star Award, organised by The Mansfield Building Society.

 

Richard was also elected as the Deputy Mayor of Stapleford for 2019/20.

 

Immersed in the Community, Richard is Chairman of Stapleford Community Group, a member of the Broxtowe Borough Council Housing Performance Group, also serving as a committee member of the New Stapleford Community Centre and Broxtowe Youth Homelessness and an honorary member of the Stapleford Combined Services Association.

 

Richard was previously employed as a Head Door Supervisor but had to retire due to ill health.

He has a wide range of hobbies when time allows and this includes the history of Stapleford.
