I
served on Broxtowe Borough Council for 20 years from 1983 - 2003
holding senior position including Deputy Leader and committee
chairman. In 2005 I was elected to Nottinghamshire County
Council where I continue to serve as the County Councillor for Nuthall
having been responsible for Children and young People's Services
during my time in office.
I was born in Bulwell and have always
been involved in education, gaining a BSc (Hons) degree from the University of Strathclyde and a PGCE from Nottingham
University. I taught at a boys' grammar school in Rugby
before moving back to Nottingham to work at Eastwood Comprehensive
School and then Quarrydale School in
Sutton-in-Ashfield where I was
Assistant Head Teacher until 2005. I am married to Jill, who
is a Councillor at Broxtowe Borough
Council and we have one son, Andrew who is a hospital doctor in
Birmingham.
When not occupied in working for residents and on Council matters I
act as a Chief Examiner for IGCSE and 'A' level
qualifications.
