PROPOSAL FOR HACKNEY CARRIAGE FARES INCREASE LOCAL GOVERNMENT (MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS) ACT 1976 pdf icon PDF 213 KB

To consider a proposal to increase hackney carriage fares from 1 July 2022.

 

Minutes:

The Committee considered a proposal to increase hackney carriage fares from 1 July 2022. The last increase was 1 May 2019 and the matter had been raised by Members of the Taxi trade. A consultation to the drivers had been carried out with the preferred option of D being most favoured.

 

A proposed increase would be subject to public consultation under Section 65(2) of the Local Governments (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 and require publishing in a local newspaper.

 

Councillors S Paterson and C M Tideswell abstained from voting as they had not received training on licensing.

 

            RESOLVED that:

1.    The proposed options were considered and Option D was the preferred option.

2.    To advertise any proposed increase in hackney carriage fare rates.

To consider the proposed Department for Transport (DfT) Best Practice Guidance and to formulate a response to the consultation on the content of the guidance.

Members considered the proposed Department for Transport Best Practice Guidance and formulated a response to the consultation on the content of the report.

 

The Department of Transport issued Best Practice Guidance to assist Local Authorities that had responsibility for the regulation of the taxi and private hire vehicles. The guidance had been updated and consultation had commenced.

 

Councillor S Paterson left the meeting before voting commenced. Councillor C M Tideswell abstained from voting as he had not received training.

 

            RESOLVED that a response to the Department of Transport Best Practice Guide be approved and submitted.
