A report had been submitted which sought budget approval for the anticipated costs of undertaking a Community Governance Review to consider the creation of new parish councils within the unparished areas of South Broxtowe. However, following the government’s announcement to pause Local Government Reorganisation, it was stated that it was unnecessary to begin the process of creating new councils while there was uncertainty.

RESOLVED that a decision on the allocation of a budget of £50,000 towards the costs of undertaking a Community Governance Review to consider the creation of new parish/town councils within the unparished areas of South Broxtowe be deferred until there was more clarity following the government’s announcement to pause Local Government Reorganisation.

Reason

The deferral would allow for clarification to be submitted from central government on plans for Local Government Reorganisation.
